Doctors
Dr David Lovell-Smith – Doctor
I have practised in Hillmorton for 32 years and made many friends here. While I use all the standard medical treatments, I am also enthusiastic about finding innovative ways to help the body restore itself. I am interested in diet and particularly in the way we eat. In 2006 I was fortunate to receive a Senior Health Research Scholarship. This allowed me to pursue further studies, graduating with a PhD in 2010. I continue to write and publish in this area and teach 4th year medical students in my role as Clinical Senior Lecturer at the Christchurch School of Medicine.
I also have a particular interest in Maharishi Ayurveda, a reformulation of the ancient system of health from India, and I am an experienced teacher of Transcendental Meditation www.enjoytm.co.nz I have published a book “Perfect Blood Pressure - Naturally” (Penguin 2001) www.perfectbloodpressure.com
When not seeing patients I enjoy singing in choirs, playing piano, dancing (social ballroom), gardening, reading, meditating and pottering around in my workshop.
We have a top team here at HillMed Health and I am proud to be part of it.
Dr Cathy Allison – Doctor
I have enjoyed working in general practice for over 25 years. I enjoy the ongoing rapport with patients and their families built up over many years. I have a strong preventative focus and believe that education and the promotion of healthy lifestyle empowers people to make informed health choices. My particular interest is in the healthcare of people with intellectual disability and have many years of experience working in this area. Other areas of interest are women’s health and palliative care. It is important to me that people from different cultures have equal access to medical care. I am the GP representative of the Pacific Island reference group at Pegasus Health which seeks to break down the barriers to healthcare faced by the Pacific island communities.
I believe in general practice teams working together to provide the best care possible to their patients. I am proud to be part of the excellent team here at HillMed Health Centre.
"Thorough, thoughtful, considerate and of utmost integrity, Cathy’s good humour and steady stewardship have set the tone for the friendly healing environment that HillMed Health is proud to offer." - David Lovell-Smith
Dr Vinod Singh – Doctor
I moved into General Practice ten years ago after six years in hospital medicine (of which three were in women’s health). I thoroughly enjoy the variety and challenge of working in the community. I have a particular interest in children’s health, musculoskeletal medicine and travel medicine. While I like to look after patients’ individual needs, I also enjoy catering for the needs of the Whanau. Having an Indian ethnic and cultural background and speaking three languages, I find I can quickly establish rapport with diverse cultural and ethnic groups. This helps me relate general practice to their needs.
We make a good team at HillMed Health and I am very happy to be part of it.
"Kind, compassionate and good humoured, Vinod is a natural healer whose quiet, reassuring manner and warm personality is appreciated by patients and staff alike." - David Lovell-Smith
Dr Adam Campbell – Doctor
I studied at Otago, gaining a degree in Neuroscience before going into Medicine. Training took me to Wellington and Hawke's Bay before I moved to practice hospital medicine in Nelson. During this time I completed postgraduate training in Paediatrics, an area I really enjoy, gaining the Diploma in Child Health (DCH).
In 2017 I began working as a GP, and have been loving it since. I value getting to know people, and I consider it a privilege to be able to serve patients. I aim to treat patients as extended family, offering the best possible, personalised care.
Outside of work I'm a keen runner and cyclist. I enjoy the rogaining scene in Christchurch - if you haven't tried one of these crazy team events you should give it a go!
I love getting into the backcountry by any means - tramping, ski-touring and mountaineering. In spare moments I am right into music, including trying to become a better musician myself.
Nurses
Jo – Nurse
I have been nursing for over 30 years. In this time I have worked overseas and in New Zealand in many nursing fields. For the past 11 years I have worked as a Practice Nurse. While I enjoy all aspects of Practice Nursing, I have a particular interest in diabetes, older persons’ health and health education.
I enjoy being part of the HillMed Health team and having the opportunity to make a difference to our patients and their families.
Therese – Nurse
I enjoy the variety of nursing that General Practice offers and being able to work within the Hillmorton community. I have a special interest in asthma, diabetes and wound care.
Working with my team mates at HillMed Health is very rewarding. We offer a patient-centred approach to health care. We also like to have a few laughs which I feel is essential to us all for our well-being and good health.
Debbie – Nurse
I have been nursing for the last 16 years, with a previous background in oncology and clinical research. I thoroughly enjoy interacting with the Hillmorton community and I have a particular interest in paediatric care. I have two children of my own. When not nursing I enjoy time with my family, fitness training and camping.
Administration Team
Wendy – Receptionist
I work with a wonderful caring team and I really enjoy the friendly interaction with the patients. I have worked in the medical field as a nurse aide and receptionist for the past 25 years and at HillMed Health since February 2008.
Sue – Receptionist
After working in a North Island medical centre for the last eight and a half years I have shifted south last year and joined this wonderful team at HillMed Health in August.
I am from a farming background, living in the Wairarapa and then Bay of Plenty. Since we moved to Christchurch, I have enjoyed the challenge of setting up a new house and gardens. In my spare time I enjoy playing bridge at the Christchurch Bridge Club.
